My feet are super sore, bruised, swollen and stiff after running a 5K. Do I need to run more often? Or only run on flat treadmills/track surfaces? Rebecca says I am banned from running on pavement.
I think I did it in about 35 minutes, it was a disorganized 5K... but free so I can't complain. Next time, if there ever is one, I will take a watch so I can know how long I take to run it. I did it pushing E in our mountain buggy jogging stroller, and no walking or stopping. Bad news is my weight is still high today. I hope to break even tomorrow on the scale. ...Run a 5K and still gain weight... that ain't right. We also helped clean the LDS chapel after the 5K, so it was a busy morning Saturday.

Congrats on your first 5k!!! 35 minutes is a great time, especially pushing a stroller.
I can not believe your feet are that bad off...were there hills? I imagine some inserts would help, SuperFeet and all. But wow- I would think running more often would help.
I hope you don't mind the intrusion from a stranger, but I found your link on Hannah's blog and thought I'd share my 2 cents.
Congrats on finishing your first 5k. That is awesome!! Now I don't know how much running you are doing, but I can say with some authority (and by that I mean my own experience) that that soreness and stiffness generally subsides with consistent training. When I started walking/running (and currently after essentially a 6 month hiatus from the sport) I get super horrible pain and cramps in my feet as I run. But I know that as I continue to engage those muscles to this movement that seems so foreign to them, the pain subsides and the soreness goes away. So I say keep doing it, and I also say that pavement running is important, especially if you plan on running more races, as it's difficult to mimic the terrain and the way your body will react to it on the treadmill. If you must run on a treadmill I would suggest running on a .5 or 1% incline. Also, studies have shown that drinking chocolate milk immediately following exercize will help speed up recovery. (but really I'll take any excuse to drink chocolate milk. YUM!)

After one day, my feet feel better, but Sunday after the race was tough, no flexibility in my ankle, bruises and swollen, it hurt to even stand. I took lots of anti-inflammatory pills and pain medication. I almost didn't go to church, but limped in anyway. The sacrament meeting room was trashed! this after Rebecca and I cleaned for an hour the day before, people are slobs. I have read about chocolate milk study but have not tried it. I am also a believer in salmon's curative powers.
Anne is totally an authority on running- I would listen to her!
